There is a Love

Dear Reader:

There is a love which is more universal than sex, a love that makes a person devote himself or herself to something or someone that doesn't arouse sexually. This love complements the urge to procreate.

This complementary love binds persons together in thought, in feeling, and in action, to care for plants and to care for other objects that enable us all to live. This love is part of our survival instinct, as is erotic love. Children feel this love years before they dream of or experience sexual climax. Older people feel this love long after sex lust is gone.

Gardeners love their plants. Carpenters love their tools. Shepherds love their sheep. The good shepherd defends his lambs against lions even if he dies in his love. Heroic soldiers defend their fortress, their ship, and their buddies to the death. This love is strengthened by and expresses the Higher Power.

Persons who feel this love feel connected in union with one another and with the ones to whom they feel devoted. You see this devotion in loyal associates and in the good keeper of animals and plants. You see this person taking care of all those to whom he or she is devoted.

You can't doubt that this Higher Power exists. It is so evident in a good mother's devotion to her child, and a good workman's devotion to his tools! Whatever you love to do and do well, the Higher Power is there, working in you. This doing of good works brings universal enjoyment.

A good mother and child support each other. Tools and the good carpenter work together. Everyone's survival depends on this Higher Power.

Our very bodies work as one unit, all the fingers, toes, and limbs, working as ONE. We thrive by taking good care of each part of our bodies. When we CUT OFF a healthy part of a baby's body, we violate the principle of the Higher Power, and the child feels a great pain. Our instinct is not to cut healthy flesh but people cut healthy flesh when their natural instinct is dimmed and dulled.

The brain of a healthy child is whole, and each talent adds its share to the whole. The Higher Power makes children hum and sing, and adds words to their melodies, their dances, and their games. Math and science, history, and art, and all the other subjects are combined in songs and in theater. Mother Goose, Mary Poppins, and other celebrities of youthful edutainment come alive. The Higher Power makes this happen. Young children take delight in the Higher Power.

Love is the caregiver and the nurturer of whole brains. Love speaks in parables put to music, and makes learning delightful. Games bring competitors together in sport, but the music doesn't cease, and the losers aren't sad, because they have stimulated the winners to excel. After the contest, all the players embrace in joy. Everyone understands the Higher Power. Sacred and secular are ONE. Every day feels like a holiday. Work and play feel the same. This is why people work harder than ever before.

Selah.
